Have you ever thought about how the Earth has everything we need to live? One example is how we breathe out carbon dioxide but plants and tiny things like algae in the ocean absorb it and turn it back into oxygen for us to breathe again. But how do astronauts recycle air and water on the International Space Station (ISS)?
On the International Space Station, Paxi is curious about how it feels so safe and comfortable. Luckily, NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen is around to explain to Paxi the “Closed Loop System”, which helps astronauts live in space longer and even saves some money!
For a long time, astronauts got oxygen from water (which is made of hydrogen and oxygen) that was sent from Earth. But now, with the “Closed Loop System”, they can save enough water to fill a big bathtub every year — and that’s a lot of water!
Join Paxi and Stephen as they explore how astronauts live and breathe on the ISS!
