One example is how we breathe out carbon dioxide but\u00a0plants and tiny things like algae in the ocean absorb it and turn it back into oxygen for us to breathe again. But how do astronauts recycle air and water on the International Space Station (ISS)?<\/p>\n<p>On the International Space Station, Paxi is curious about how\u00a0it feels so safe and comfortable. Luckily, NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen is around to explain to Paxi the &#8220;Closed Loop System&#8221;, which helps astronauts live in space longer and even saves some money!<\/p>\n<p>For a long time, astronauts got oxygen from water (which is made of hydrogen and oxygen) that was sent from Earth.
