23 anni fa Ulf Merbold fu il primo astronauta dell'ESA a volare nello spazio. Da allora altri astronauti provenienti da molti stati membri dell'ESA hanno seguito le sue orme. Ora, dopo 14 anni di attesa, \u00e8 il turno di Christer Fuglesang, il primo svedese ad andare in orbita.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

La missione STS-116 dello Shuttle \u00e8 decollata da Cape Canaveral, in Florida, il 9 dicembre (ora locale), con a bordo Fuglesang e sei colleghi della NASA. Dopo un volo di due giorni, il Discovery \u00e8 attraccato alla Stazione Spaziale Internazionale (ISS). Gli astronauti sono stati salutati calorosamente dai tre membri dell'equipaggio della ISS, tra cui l\u2019astronauta dell'ESA Thomas Reiter.<\/p>\n

Il principale obiettivo di questa visita \u00e8 quello di continuare le operazioni di costruzione della grande e complessa Stazione Spaziale Internazionale. Fuglesang avr\u00e0 un ruolo chiave, perch\u00e9 parteciper\u00e0 a due delle tre passeggiate nello spazio in programma durante la missione. La prima passeggiata di 6 ore \u00e8 prevista il 12 dicembre con Robert Curbeam, per installare un nuovo segmento della struttura portante, sul quale, la prossima estate, verranno montati 4 pannelli solari.<\/p>\n

Il 14 dicembre poi la stessa coppia di astronauti compir\u00e0 un'altra passeggiata di 6 ore nello spazio. Questa volta renderanno pi\u00f9 potente il sistema di alimentazione della stazione, collegando un nuovo gruppo di pannelli solari e radiatori. Queste gigantesche apparecchiature sono state portate sulla ISS da un altro Shuttle lo scorso settembre.<\/p>\n

Durante la sua missione \u201cCelsius\u201d della durata di 12 giorni \u2013 che prende il nome da un famoso scienziato svedese \u2013 Fuglesang condurr\u00e0 anche una serie di esperimenti scientifici. L\u2019ex campione di frisbee spera inoltre di sfruttare l\u2019assenza di gravit\u00e0 per battere il record di durata di volo di un frisbee.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
