Unfortunately engineers have not been able to re-establish contact with it since then.<\/p>\n<p>The Envisat team is trying to understand the satellite\u2019s condition, using images from ground radar and the French Pleiades satellite. It will continue trying to re-establish contact with Envisat for the next two months.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-natural\" data-width=\"400\" data-credit=\"ESA\/EJR-Quartz\" data-detail-url=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/ESA_Multimedia\/Images\/2009\/12\/Envisat_for_Schools_Animation2\" data-licence=\"ESA Standard Licence\" data-licence-url=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/ESA_Multimedia\/Terms_and_conditions_of_use_of_images_and_videos_available_on_the_esa_website\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/var\/esa\/storage\/images\/esa_multimedia\/images\/2009\/12\/envisat_for_schools_animation2\/17868043-3-eng-GB\/Envisat_for_Schools_Animation.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/figure>\n<p>Envisat\u2019s 10 instruments have given us a wealth of information about our planet. It has witnessed the shrinking of Arctic sea ice, air pollution increase in Asia, and variations in the Antarctica ozone hole.<\/p>\n<p>Envisat\u2019s images were used to study the effects of deforestation and to improve our understanding of earthquakes and volcanoes.<\/p>\n<p>The precious data sent to Earth by Envisat will be missed by its user community.
