Diez a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de que la primera expedici\u00f3n llegase a la Estaci\u00f3n Espacial Internacional (ISS), la \u00faltima misi\u00f3n a la misma acaba de despegar del cosm\u00f3dromo de Baikonur. A bordo de la nave TMA-20 van los astronautas Paolo Nespoli, de la Agencia Espacial Europea, el ruso Dmitri Kondratyev, y Catherine Coleman, de la NASA. Su traslado a la estaci\u00f3n incluir\u00e1 35 \u00f3rbitas alrededor de la Tierra y tres cargas de motores. El acoplamiento autom\u00e1tico con la Estaci\u00f3n Espacial Internacional est\u00e1 previsto para el viernes, 17 de diciembre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Durante esta misi\u00f3n de seis meses, Paolo ser\u00e1 el ingeniero de vuelo para las expediciones 26 y 27. Adem\u00e1s, realizar\u00e1 m\u00e1s de 30 experimentos para cient\u00edficos europeos, norteamericanos, canadienses y japoneses. Tambi\u00e9n participar\u00e1 en el acoplamiento de dos naves de carga no tripuladas. El segundo Veh\u00edculo de Transferencia Automatizado europeo, el Johannes Kepler, y el segundo ferry HTV japon\u00e9s, reaprovisionar\u00e1n la estaci\u00f3n espacial en febrero de 2011.<\/p>\n

The MagISStra mission is Europe\u2019s third long-duration mission to the ISS. (The name MagISStra, combines the ISS with the Latin word \u2018magistra\u2019 – a female teacher.) As the name suggests, education is an important part of Paolo\u2019s activities. There will be two main projects. The \u2018Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut\u2019 programme is built around health, well-being and nutrition. \u2018Greenhouse in Space\u2019 involves growing plants on the ISS while schoolchildren experiment with a similar greenhouse and the same type of plant on the ground.<\/p>\n

Paolo will also use a special camera to make 3-D films of life on board the ISS. Some of these will be posted at twitter.com\/astro_paolo<\/a> and on ESA\u2019s YouTube channel.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
